Inspiration…

Last weekend i watched a story that was so inspiring that i just had to share and add my own pearls along with it. I was watching the show real life divas and this particular episode featured the story of Lisa Price – The owner of Carol’s Daughter. Her story was so amazing that i would have been a fool to walk away not feeling inspired. In a nut shell this woman created all these products herself as a hobby. She lost her job and decided to pursue this hobby full time. This woman was persistent, she didn’t wait for success to fall in her lap she went all out to make her dreams come true and look at her today (several stores, products in major department stores, high profile investors). The way she overcame the obstacles placed in front of her it was clear that her success was destined. But it took hard work and dedication.

Her story got me to thinking….. why are so many of us afraid of success/failure? Why do we lack the confidence to step outside the box? I have been a victim of this myself….OMG what if I actually succeed???….OMG what if people don’t like what I’m doing?? So often fear and self –esteem issues prevent us from realizing how great we truly are.

But really if GOD blessed you with the idea the only question in your head should be how can I make this happen. Why would GOD bless you with the idea if he wasn’t going to pave the way for you to make it happen?

Take Oprah and Lisa Price the only thing that sets them apart from most people is that they saw the vision, put one foot in front of the other and made it happen! If something is meant to be, regardless, of what it is as long as you put effort into it, it will be. Taking something from concept to reality is not always easy. It takes a lot of hard work and undoubtedly there will be rejection along the way. However, when it gets hard or when you’ve been rejected don’t use it as an excuse to drop your dream altogether. Maybe there is a lesson to be learned, maybe you just need to refocus or maybe your just dealing with the wrong people. If you believe in what you’re trying to do then you should never give up. Remember anything worth having is worth doing what it takes to make it happen!

Our president is a man of color! Regardless of how you feel about him….there is a man of color running the United States of America! Given the history of people of color in this country, we all should feel motivated to do everything we were placed on this earth to do. The only limitations are those you place on yourself!

Create a new mindset….
Believe that anything is possible
Stop using your past as an excuse not to be great

Maybe you have already accomplised everything you set out to do. If so, that’s great. However, you shouldn’t stop there….take the opportunity to encourage those around you. Try to be a “Spliff Star” at least once a week to those you love…or even a stranger! Side note: For those of you who don’t know who Spliff Star is…he is the best hype man in the business. You will be amazed how good it will make you feel to push someone in a positive direction.

For those of you who don’t know me….i loooooove old music. I have been listening to “Do you know” the theme song from the movie Mahogany everyday for about a month now. Since, some of the lyrics fit in with the topic discussed in this blog, I figured I would post them.

Enjoy!

Diana Ross – “Do you know?”

Do you know where you’re going to?
Do you like the things that life is showing you?
Where are you going to? Do you know?

Do you get what you’re hoping for?
When you look behind you there’s no open door
What are you hoping for?
Do you know?

Once we were standing still in time
Chasing the fantasies that filled our minds
You knew i loved you, but my spirit was free
Laughing at the question that you once asked of me

Do you know where you’re going to?
Do you like the things that life is showing you?
Where are you going to? Do you know?

Now, looking back at all we’ve planned
We’ve let so many dreams just slip through our hands
Why must we wait so long before we’ll see
How sad the answers to those questions can be?

Do you know where you’re going to?
Do you like the things that life is showing you?
Where are you going to? Do you know?

Do you get what you’re hoping for?
When you look behind you there’s no open door
What are you hoping for? Do you know?
